Naba Sigri Bewong was born in 1946 and attended Sekoti Primary School in 1953 to 1958. 1n 1959 he attended Zuarungu Middle Boarding School, in the Upper East Region of Ghana. In 1960, he sat for the Common Entrance Examination and was successful. He entered the Government Secondary School, Tamale from 1961 to 1967. In 1965, he obtained his General Certificate of Education, Ordinary Level in Science. In 1967, he obtained General Certificate of Education in Advanced Level in Physics, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
In 1968, he had a Government Scholarship to study Mining Engineering at the Camborne School of Mines, England and in 1972 he graduated as a Mining Engineer. In 1973, he returned to Ghana and started work in the Mining Industry. In 1983, he obtained a United Nations Scholarship to do his Masters’ Programme on Mine Production Management at one of the prestigious Universities in the U.K. – Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. He returned to Ghana in 1984 and continued working in the Mining Industry to 1999. He occupied several positions in the mining industry from the position Inspector of Mines rising up to the position of a General Mines Manager.
His work in the mining industry earned him a Membership status of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, (I.M.M.M.), London, an International Professional Body, from 1991 to 2011. In January 2012, he voluntarily resigned his membership in order to devote the rest of his time with Chieftaincy Matters.
On chieftaincy matters, he was enskinned on 9th May 1998, by the Nayire as a Paramount Chief of Sekoti Traditional Area, hence the Skin Name: NABA SIGRI. As a Paramount Chief, he is Member of the National House of Chiefs and the immediate Past President of the Upper East House of Chiefs. He has been a Member of the Regional Lands Commission (2000 to 2013) and the National Lands Commission (2009 to 2013)He was a Member of the reconstituted Board of S.A.D.A. from June 2014 to Dec 2016 and is the Chairman of the Upper East Region Peace Council (July 2014 to date)
